The winter does not bring many trips home, even less now that the camp is closed until Spring. So Mom and I decided to make a weekend rendezvous in Lake Placid for a belated bday celebration.
I started the day off early, to make it over to the Cascade Cross Country Ski Center. It was perfect. The snow was heavy and wet – and for speed demon advanced skiers probably not the best – but for a newbie like me it was perfection. The trail was slow, and allowed me to work on turns and hills that I wouldn’t be able to tackle on faster days. Cascade also hooks up with Jackrabbit Trail which I investigated for bit, but definitely will have to explore more next winter.
Mom and I met up at the Brown Dog Cafe for lunch. Wow. No really. We enjoyed a nice glass of wine, with a view overlooking a beautiful winter scene of Mirror Lake, cross country skiers, and ADKs in the background. I went with the Maple Pulled Pork Sandwich, topped with coleslaw and blue cheese crumbles on a broiche. My mouth waters just thinking about it. I will definitely be going back!
In the afternoon we headed over to Tupper Lake and the Wild Center. It is filled with all sorts of fun and fabulous #ADK nature loving goodness. Going to have to go back this summer for the outdoor trails.
Before dinner we hit up the fitness center and squeezed in a run – my first back in 5 months. And pretty nice pace considering the the hiatus. Of course some pre-gaming before dinner with Moose Poop (aka chocolate) and beer. Then on to dinner at the Great Adirondack Stead and Seafood. I of course had their beer sampler:)
Next morning we had one more loop through downtown, window shopping and a very tasty breakfast. Though sans the bloddy marry I was going to get. No alcohol until noon on Sunday’s. Really NY?! Who knew. Well I guess I do now.
